How a Checklist Helped Me Stay Hopeful

Have you ever felt totally overwhelmed by the news? I have. That's why I want to share something that helped me find focus and hope when I really needed it.
I found the Americans of Conscience Checklist a couple of years ago during one of those moments when Mr. T had me feeling helpless and discouraged. In that darker time, this checklist became a lifeline. It was a small but powerful way to take meaningful action when everything felt out of control.
Created by Jen Hofmann, the checklist is a nonpartisan resource focused on human rights, democracy, and kindnessβideals I try to live by every day.
The most significant selling point for me is how clear, concise, and actionable each item is. You get to choose what you do based on how much you have in your emotional or motivational tank, and that flexibility makes it sustainable even in tough weeks.
There is so much to love, but my favorite part is the "Good News" section. In a world where our inboxes and social feeds are often flooded with negativity, this section is a beautiful reminder that good people are making a difference. It's not just encouraging β It's grounding.
Another thing that sets this resource apart is its emphasis on positive change and uplifting stories rather than the endless cycle of outrage we often see online. It invites reflection and intentional action, which is rare and refreshing.
The checklist is published weekly or biweekly, depending on what's happening worldwide. It's accessible, manageable, and motivating, helping people like me feel like we're part of something bigger without burning out.
If you've ever felt overwhelmed or unsure where to start, I highly recommend checking out the Americans of Conscience Checklist. Whether you have five minutes or an hour, you can always do something to support justice, kindness, and democracy.
Like me, I hope you find that it becomes a small but powerful part of your routine.
